Active School Planner
All schools are now able to register on the Active School Planner website. (www.activeschoolplanner.org)
This has a self-review tool called a heatmap, to look at where and how the school is increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour in pupils.
The Chief Medical Officer recommends that children should aim to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day to achieve the full health benefits. Physical activity improves physical, social and emotional health and wellbeing.
Four out of five children are not active enough, contributing to increased inflammation, obesity and other non-communicable diseases.
By registering on the website, schools can now map the physical activity of classes / year groups or the whole school. You can also map the usage of the hall to see where there are any gaps where it can be utilised more for physical activity such as for breakfast clubs etc.
Please visit the website and have a go, the Active School Planner registration (Bronze Award) and production of a heatmap (Silver and Gold Award) is a requirement for primary schools for the School Games Mark for 2017-2018, so please do have a look.
